Rota-HX dryers for the food and agriculture waste industries
Saurin supplies a range of Rota-HX Dryers for handling of high viscosity liquids, sludges, meats and
agriculture waste products. Rota-HX can be explained as a combination of Rotating Plate Heat Exchanger
and Screw Conveyor with built in scrapers. Rota-HX can dry the products down to a paste or powder as
may be required. Saurin’s process designs incorporating Rota-HX have been perfected by extensive research
done in house with a wide range of products. The Rota-HX can be washed in place using a CIP
(Cleaning-in-place) system. These are ideal for grape marc, orange waste, sludges, meats, petfoods and
animal products etc. These not only solve a product disposal problem but can also generate value out of
the dried product and/or condensate.
Each process has its own specific requirements and the Rota-HX need to be designed accordingly. Saurin
has a large knowledge bank for various products processing. For products that are new Saurin has a range
of Pilot Rota-HX s in their laboratory for product trials. The data thus generated is used for the design
of full scale plant. This is what our customer has to say “Their ability to back up their design

The supply range includes ambient conditions unit that keep the product at about 95 C. For sensitive products
a unit working under vacuum can be supplied to keep the product temperature under 60C. The vapours can be
collected and condensed if required. In one of Saurin’s projects, the vapours were more valuable than the
primary product. Saurin interacts with customers at every level of trial work and design.
We can supply either the components or a complete turnkey solution. This consists of Feed, Rota-HX, Steam
Controls, Condenser, Product discharge and handling and controls. Rota-HX installation lends itself well to
automation.
